Microbatics & Agility

Workshop

By Winston Reynolds ( Ferus Animi // Terra Nova )

  • This workshop explores ongoing research into Microbatics & Agility, two interconnected themes that will develop progressively throughout the sessions.

The acrobatic practice focuses on approaching inversions in a sustainable, holistic way, shaped by past setbacks and injuries that led to adaptations in training methodologies. The goal works towards integrating acrobatics into one’s movement vocabulary, blurring the line between structured technique and improvisation.

The second focus, Agility, examines balance, coordination, endurance, speed, meditation, and strength. Where we emphasize the relationship between learning and failure, deliberately inviting failure as a tool for growth and understanding.

Ultimately, this workshop aims to develop an adaptive, all-around mover—a “Hybrid Mover” capable of navigating dynamic cognitive and physical challenges. Drawing from neuroscience, martial arts, dance, acrobatics, meditation, locomotion, and partnering, we will explore both established and experimental movement practices.

Winston is a member of the Ferus Animi // Terra Nova Collective, a cross-disciplinary group researching human physiology and performance through both artistic and scientific perspectives.

Level: these workshops are open to all levels and backgrounds, however some comfort within a physical practice of some sort is recommended. This could range from but isn't limited to: dance, yoga, crossfit, martial arts, athletics, circus, running, etc: if in doubt feel free to reach out.

  • Winston’s journey into movement began at 17, driven by curiosity about the body’s possibilities in space. He was captivated by the interplay of imagination and physicality—the ability to envision movement, define orientation, and bring it to life.

Acrobatics became his medium of exploration, leading him to formal studies at Circomedia (2010–2012) and ACAPA: Fontys Academy of Circus and Performance Arts (2012–2016), where he specialized in physical theatre, acrobatic dance, and hybrid partnering blending contemporary dance with acrobatics.

His career launched with Alexander Vantournhout’s Red Haired Men (2017–2018), opening doors to collaborations with Notstanding, Louis Vuitton, Jasmine Ellis, Miet Warlop, and Yoann Bourgeois (2022–2024). Currently, he‘s engaged with Fernando Melo and Kalle Nio on projects for 2025–2026. Working with Yoann Bourgeois extended beyond performance into choreographic research, notably at Gothenburg Opera (We Loved Each Other So Much, Requiem Mozart).

These experiences deepened His understanding of movement creation. Parallel to performing, he developed a teaching methodology rooted in multidisciplinary exploration. Teaching became a space to test ideas and refine movement principles across disciplines. This led me to ferus animi // terra nova, a research collective integrating neuroscience, biomechanics, and philosophy into movement practice. Straddling performance, teaching, and research, he inhabits a constantly evolving terrain—one that transforms movement into an ever-deepening dialogue of expression, exploration, and discovery.
